Wingdings Translator
Text to Wingdings Unicode symbols, and symbols back to text. Uppercase and lowercase have different mappings.
Text to Wingdings examples
HELLO and Hello produce different symbols. These examples use the same source-backed mapping as the converter.
Wingdings character chart
94 keyboard characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and ASCII punctuation. Spaces and line breaks stay unchanged.
Mapping and display
The table follows Wingdings IDs 1033-1126 in Unicode document L2/12-368. It covers printable ASCII, not every character in the original font. The symbols are Unicode equivalents, not Microsoft font outlines.
Local Noto Sans Symbols fonts display the chart. Copying sends Unicode characters, not a font; another app may show a different shape, color or a missing-glyph box. Noto font license
When a Wingdings message will not decode
Copied symbols versus a Word font
This decoder accepts the Unicode symbols in the chart, including text and emoji presentation selectors. If a Word document uses the actual Wingdings font, changing the selected text to an ordinary font can reveal the underlying characters. Applying Wingdings to this tool's Unicode output is not the same operation.
Different alphabets and look-alike symbols
Wingdings 2, Wingdings 3, Webdings and custom online alphabets use different tables. A similar-looking symbol is not necessarily the same character. The decoder does not guess substitutions or read screenshots. The chart can be used to select a symbol manually.
Accents, emoji and mixed text
Accented letters, non-Latin text and unsupported emoji remain unchanged and are flagged. A mapped symbol already present in plain text can be interpreted as a letter when decoded later, so keep the original. Decoding is a visual substitution, not language translation or encryption.
Frequently asked questions
Does this translate Wingdings to English?
It converts supported symbols to their corresponding keyboard characters. It does not translate a language, infer missing letters or recover text from an image.
Why is A different from a?
The original Wingdings positions are case-sensitive. A maps to U+270C (victory hand), while a maps to U+264B (Cancer). Changing case before conversion changes the message.
Why did my old message decode differently?
An earlier version of this page used a custom decorative alphabet. This version follows the documented Wingdings positions instead. Older output and other custom alphabets are not automatically detected; use the original plain text rather than assuming the new decoder can recover it.
Are symbol messages accessible?
Screen readers may announce symbol names instead of the original letters. Keep important instructions, links and names in ordinary text, and provide a plain-text version with any symbol message.
